Jonathan S. Altman
Partner
Jonathan Altman helps families deal with serious injuries, wrongful death, heirs' property challenges, and consumer abuse.
After graduating from Northwestern University in 1989, Jonathan returned to South Carolina to attend the University of South Carolina
School of Law, of which he graduated in 1992. During law school, Jonathan worked for the South Carolina Office of Appellate Defense
and assisted in criminal and death penalty appeals.
When the South Carolina State Ports Authority sought to expand its facilities by seizing the property of descendents of freed slaves,
Jonathan represented these families to help preserve the land. Jonathan also led the fight to preserve the historic Scanlonville Cemetery.
After a developer received preliminary approval from a local planning committee to destroy the graveyard, Jonathan filed an emergency
lawsuit that not only saved the cemetery, but resulted in it being designated a National Historic Landmark.
Jonathan continues to serve the community as the chair of the City of Charleston's affordable housing initiative.
His interests include live music, running, and travel.
